Genetic Variability for Early Growth Traits in Second Season Sunflower

چکیده

Sowing a second season crop following the harvest of first (hereafter referred to as double cropping) is practice that allows for temporal diversification cropping systems increase efficiency land use and yield per unit area while improving ecosystem services. Sunflower particularly suitable cropping, especially under current context Southern Europe. However, planting sunflower in may result poor establishment very demanding terms seedbed preparations. In addition, most varieties available date belong late maturity groups (MGs), which were bred conventional cropping. Planting these further exacerbate risk failure. Here, we performed laboratory growth chamber phenotyping 11 hybrid oilseed with contrasting MGs assessed their field performance two consecutive years (2020 2021). We measured variables, such seed germination, seedling emergence dynamics final rates, post-emergence damage, characteristics are important uniform robust establishment. Under conditions, found statistically significant effect on cardinal temperatures water potential germination. maximum heterotrophic hypocotyl was higher (i.e., 85 mm) compared radicle 80 mm). The mortality rates soil aggregates ranged from 0 12%, depending size spatial distribution seedbed. germination 87 98% 99 100%, those 58 87% 78 94%, 2020 2021, respectively. average postemergence damage 13 44% 3 18% Bird main cause pre- losses. good possible southwestern conditions France, provided there no stress An optimal moisture ensures rapid limits pre-and due birds, by reducing duration phase, highly vulnerable bird damage.

Environmental and Genetic Factors Affecting Early Growth Traits in Three Yemeni Indigenous Sheep Breeds

The data were collected from 1992 to 2009 in Burri, White Boni and Black Boni sheep maintained at the Regional Research Station in the Central Highlands of Yemen. Data were analyzed to study the effects of environmental and genetic factors on body weight and growth rate from birth to weaning. The least square means for body weights (BW) were 2.54, 2.18 and 2.26 kg for birth; 12.49, 10.58 and 11...

Genetic architecture of novel traits in the hopi sunflower.

Following domestication, crop lineages typically undergo diversification either to adapt to disparate habitats or to fill novel agricultural roles. This process has produced the numerous varieties found in modern-day crop germplasm collections. Here, we mapped quantitative trait loci (QTLs) underlying unique traits in the Hopi sunflower, a primitive, Native American domesticate. These traits in...

Simultaneous Selection for Seed Yield and Agronomic Traits in Sunflower

Selection of high yielding genotypes is very important in sunflower. Thus, 24 new sunflower hybrids along with Golsa cultivar were evaluated in a simple lattice design (5×5) with two replications in the Agriculture Research Station of Gorgan, north of Iran, during 2020. The genotype by yield × trait (GYT) biplot method was used in order to study the relationships between different traits and to...

Traits affecting early season nitrogen uptake in nine legume species

Legume crops are known to have low soil N uptake early in their life cycle, which can weaken their ability to compete with other species, such as weeds or other crops in intercropping systems. However, there is limited knowledge on the main traits involved in soil N uptake during early growth and for a range of species. The objective of this research was to identify the main traits explaining t...

Additive and nonadditive genetic variability for growth traits in the Turipaná Romosinuano-Zebu multibreed herd.

Intrabreed additive genetic, environmental, and phenotypic variances and covariances for Romosinuano (R) and Zebu (Z), as well as interbreed nonadditive genetic variances and covariances (sire x breed-group-of-dam interactions), for birth weight (BWT), weaning weight (WW), and postweaning gain (GW) were computed using a Romosinuano-Zebu multibreed data set from the Turipaná Experiment Station i...
